Experimental Township

Aurov ille

An international township built around the idea of human unity — quiet forest roads, the golden Matrimandir, and a pace of life unlike anywhere else near Pondicherry.

Auroville was founded in 1968 as a universal township, and today it's home to residents from dozens of countries living around a shared philosophy of conscious, sustainable living. At its centre sits the Matrimandir — a golden geodesic sphere used for meditation, visible from a viewing point open to visitors (inner chamber access requires advance booking).

Beyond the Matrimandir, Auroville is worth a slow half-day: forest cycling routes, the Auroville Bakery, artisan workshops selling handmade paper and pottery, and a noticeably quieter rhythm than central Pondicherry.

Our concierge team can arrange a guided Auroville visit as part of your stay, and generally recommends 20 minutes' drive from most Pynest properties, making it an easy half-day trip.
