A weekend guide to Pondicherry
Two nights in Pondicherry is enough to get a real feel for the place, provided you don't try to see everything. The trick is picking a base and letting the rest of the trip radiate outward from it.
Friday evening: Arrive, check in, and do nothing more ambitious than a walk along Promenade Beach as the sun goes down. The stretch near the Gandhi statue and the old lighthouse is where most people end up, and for good reason.
Saturday: Spend the morning in White Town — Rue Romain Rolland and the streets around it are made for wandering without a map. Break for lunch at one of the French Quarter cafes, then use the afternoon for whichever beach fits your villa's location: Serenity Beach if you want surf and coffee, Paradise Beach if you're up for the boat ride through the Chunnambar backwaters.
Sunday: If you have the morning free, Auroville is worth the short drive — even just the Matrimandir viewing point and a slow walk through the surrounding forest paths. Head back toward Chennai or Bangalore after lunch.
Where you stay shapes the whole trip more than people expect. A French Quarter base means you can walk to breakfast; a beach villa means your mornings start differently. Our concierge team can help match the itinerary to the right property before you book.
